Volunteer Blast November 2022

Volunteer Blast November 2022

The big news for this month is that next week, on the 14th of November, it is World Diabetes Day 2022. Someone is diagnosed with diabetes every two minutes. Together, we have the power to #RewriteTheStory for everyone who will be diagnosed in the future and that is why it is our theme for this year. Click here to read the guide with all the information you need for getting involved. World Diabetes Day does mean it is a jam-packed Blast this month, we have made the contents so you can click on the bit you’d like to read and be taken straight to that place in the document.

We will also be hosting our next catch up on World Diabetes Day during the evening and we would love to see as many of you there as possible. There is no need to register, simply see below for the joining instructions.

HIGHLIGHTS!

How can we help in the cost of living crisis?

We want to ensure we're doing all we can to support our community during the cost of living crisis - but we need your help. Will you take our short, anonymous survey and tell us how you're being affected by rising costs - and what kind of help you most need from us?

Share your thoughts here: https://orlo.uk/H4V1L

The survey will close on the 20th of November.

Research Event

On the 16th of November, 2pm-3pm we’re inviting all our volunteers, fundraisers, and supporters to join us for a very exciting, online event where we’ll be announcing new developments in creating a type 1 diabetes screening programme. Hear about this landmark project direct from the researchers – Professor Parth Narendran and Dr Lauren Quinn – and how their findings could help us #RewriteTheStory of type 1 diabetes. There’ll also be the chance to put your questions to the researchers too. See the Blast for instructions on how to register.

Volunteer Speakers invited to share lived experiences at staff induction

We’re looking for volunteer speakers who’d like to share their experiences of living with type 1, type 2, gestational or rarer types of diabetes at our new staff induction sessions. This opportunity is open to all trained Speaker volunteers and anyone who would like to attend speaker training. If you are interested you can find further information in the Blast.

Speaker training

We are looking to host the next Speaker Training online in December. If you are waiting on training, would like a refresher, or even just think some of the skills would be useful in another volunteer role then we would love to see you there. Please contact emma.parke@diabetes.org.uk or north@diabetes.org.uk if you would like to attend.

Finally, it is the season for woolly jumpers and wellies which means it is also the season for Flu Jabs and the COVID-19 booster. We have information for you inside the blast, but you can also head to our website: Coronavirus vaccines and diabetes | Latest updates | Diabetes UK
