Gentle Introduction to Exercise (GITE) for people with Type 2 Diabetes

Nick Broadhead of AIW Health has advised us of the opportunity for people with Type 2 Diabetes to have access to a programme which will introduce them to a gentle exercise regime.

Until recently, access to these sessions have been restricted to people who have been through the XPERT Diabetes programme, however these sessions are now accessible to other people who have not been through that route.

The exercises, as the name suggests, are very gentle and have been receiving good feedback from people who have been participating in the sessions - as well as feeling better as a result of their exercise, their blood glucose has reduced to acceptable levels.

The sessions are free and are run every Wednesday between 5.30pm - 6.30pm at both Beechwood Recreation Centre and Wallasey Fire station and on a Monday between 2pm - 3pm at Birkenhead Fire station.

The sessions teach people a repertoire of simple, gentle exercises that encourage them to repeat at least 5 days a week for 30 minutes, in line with Government guidelines.

A warm welcome is extended to anyone with Type 2 Diabetes to attend the sessions and anyone interested in attending or requiring more information should contact Nick Broadhead on 07557 412682.
